Aquamarine

Aquamarine is a blue to greenish-blue variety of beryl. Like, emerald, which is also a beryl-variety, aquamarine is a somewhat softer gemstone with 7.5 to 8.0 on Mohs scale, but as opposed to Emerald, Aquamarine usually have fewer inclusions.

Due to its colour’s similarity to water it was associated to the god Neptune and therefore was believed to protect sailors and travellers at sea, by calming the ocean, keeping away sea monsters and guiding seafarers in treacherous waters. Aquamarine was also supposed to protect travellers by land, and could help the wearer find hidden objects they were searching for.

Legend has it that aquamarine would protect the wearer against poison from their enemies, and would help cure jaw and throat problems, as well as diseases of the stomach and liver.

Aquamarine was also believed to help focus, increase intellect and make the wearer quick witted. It was also supposed to have the power to reduce fears and anxiety and it was believed the gemstone could help control emotions and stress.

Aquamarine is the birthstone of March and the zodiacal birthstone of Gemini.
